A white high school football coach will keep his teaching job after he was fired for making a racial comment.
Lakewood High School coach Brian Bruch made the comment to a black player during a November game when the player ignored his orders to join his teammates.
Pinellas schools superintendent Clayton Wilcox fired Bruch as coach and from his teaching job Bruch held for 23 years.
Members of St. Petersburg's black community and former players gave their support by saying Bruch isn't a racist. Now Wilcox says he's softening the discipline to a 10-day, unpaid suspension and a transfer to another school where he will teach. He would also attend two workshops on racial diversity.
The board will consider the case February eighth.
