Bodybuilding is a lifestyle. It requires discipline, training, and a lot of patience, and that's exactly what a group of men from Dothan have as they prepare for the annual Mr. Alabama bodybuilding competition. They plan to represent the city well.

They're going to know about Dothan, Alabama whenever we leave Birmingham," bodybuilder Gary Purvis said. "That's the thing that's kept us fired up, making a statement up there, bringing home hopefully some first place trophies."

Wayne Hendley says he was talked into going, but is excited to go with all five of his friends.

"They talked me into doing Mr. Alabama," he said, "so I decided since everybody's going to be in it...there's five of us, we'll all go from Gold's Gym in Dothan and it'll be a lot of fun, we'll all have a good time and just see what happens."

Steffen Hughes is competing in his first Mr. Alabama competition, but took home first place honors in a different competition two weeks ago.

"We all competed about two and a half weeks ago at a show in Tuscaloosa, 'Clash of the Capstone' and we all did good, we brought home three first place trophies, one second place and a third out of four people so we did good," he said.

Keith Jordan won this competition seven years ago, and is coming out of retirement to compete this year, at the age of 50.

"I just turned 50 last week so I'm coming back seven years later to try and win the 50 and over so that's my motivation for this, that's my birthday present," he said with a smile. "I've been training for over 30 years and I'm still in great shape and I still enjoy it...it's really a lifestyle. I think I forgot how hard it was again, doing the cardio, adn the diet and everything, but we have a good group of guys this time and we've all banded together and we have a lot of support within each other.
