TROY, Ala. (AP) - Add Troy coach Larry Blakeney to the list of those unimpressed with this year's bowl selections.
The 8-4 Trojans were shut out of the bowl lineup while Oklahoma State, which lost to Troy by 18 points, got a berth -- along with 6-6 teams like Alabama.
Troy was shunned by the bowls yesterday, the day after it lost control of its postseason fate by falling 38-32 to Florida Atlantic.
A victory would have made Troy the outright Sun Belt Conference champion and given it a berth in the New Orleans Bowl.
Instead, the slot went to Florida Atlantic, which shared the league crown with Troy.
Troy's 8-4 record included losses to Number 4 Georgia, Number 9 Florida and Number 25 Arkansas. Oklahoma State, which Troy defeated, finished 6-6 but got a spot in the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona.
Blakeney said he hopes the Sun Belt Conference can get another bowl tie-in to go with the New Orleans Bowl. Of 20 teams with seven wins or less that were invited to bowls, all had contractual tie-ins except TCU, which was picked for the Texas Bowl.
