12-year-olds take the court for USTA Regional Tournament Segment

Dothan, AL-12 year old boys and girls from all over the country descended upon Dothan this weekend for the USTA Regional Tournament Segment.

This afternoon, finals matches for both boys and girls singles and doubles were held at Westgate Tennis Center.

David Burns from Fleming Island, Florida defeated Zachary Smith of New Orleans for the boy's 12-year-old singles title. He swept Smith in two sets, both 6-1.

AnneMarie Hiser from Acworth, Georgia and Ruth Marsh from Atlanta, Georgia duked it out for the girl's singles title. The two are familiar foes who often play together back at home. The girls split sets, Marsh taking the first set 6-4 with Hiser taking the second 7-5. Hiser won the championship in a 10 point tie-breaker with a score of 10-8.

Doubles pairs took to the court after the singles champs were named. It wasn't your typical championship match style. These doubles championships were played as 8 game pro sets.

Singles winner David Burns and AJ Duggan from Gulf Breeze, Florida played Zachary Smith and Daniel Trudell from Louisiana. Smith and Trudell came out victorious winning 9-8.

Singles champ AnneMarie Hiser and Chloe Beck from Watkinsville, Georgia versed Ruth Marsh and Margaret White from Birmingham. Hiser and Beck defeated Marsh and White 8-4.

Sydney Taylor from Johns Creek, Georgia won the Sportsmanship Award for the Girls. A.J. Duggan of Gulf Breeze, Florida won the Sportsmanship Award for the Boys.
