BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Troy jumped out to a 14-0 lead with a first-quarter defensive touchdown and held on to beat Western Kentucky 21-17.
Troy (7-3) leads the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans never trailed in defeating the Hilltoppers (6-4).
The Trojans scored twice in the first quarter. They took a 7-0 lead on Omar Haughabook's 5-yard pass to Gary Banks with 9:25 remaining. On the next possession, Troy's Chris Bradwell picked up a David Wolke fumble and returned it 16 yards for a 14-0 lead.
Western Kentucky pulled to 21-14 with a 65-yard scoring drive in the third quarter. Stephen Willis scored from a yard out at the 7:30 mark.
