Auburn Used Conservative Defense Against Arkansas

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn's offense managed an impressive feat against Arkansas, turning into the most conservative team on the field.

The Tigers attempted 23 passes, four fewer than Arkansas. They had 53 rushes compared to the Razorbacks' 25 in the 9-7 win.

Coach Tommy Tuberville said the conservative mix wasn't necessarily according to plan. He said plans change as he sees how his team is playing and how the other team reacts.

Brad Lester and Ben Tate both had more than 20 carries and the Tigers held onto the ball for nearly 36 minutes. The result was three field goals by Wes Byrum, including the game-winner with 21 seconds left.

But Tuberville knows the reality that the ball-control attack won't work often without producing more points.
