AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - The Southeastern Conference office announced today that Auburn sophomore linebacker Tray Blackmon has been named the conference Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor comes after Auburn's 9-7 victory over Arkansas on Saturday. Blackmon led the Tigers' defense with a career-high nine tackles, including six solo. He also helped hold Arkansas to just 193 yards of total offense.
Blackmon also led the effort to stop the nations top running duo. Arkansas' Darren McFadden was ranked third nationally averaging 155.8 yards rushing per game.
But Auburn held him to just 43, his lowest rushing total in nearly two years. Felix Jones averaged 126.2 yards per game which ranked 10th nationally. But he had just 42 yards against Auburn.
Blackmon is the sixth Auburn player to be recognized with an SEC weekly award this season. He is the Tigers' second Defensive Player of the Week. Jerraud Powers was named Defensive Player of the Week
following Auburn's September 29th victory at Florida.
Auburn travels to Number Five LSU on Saturday. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. central time and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
