Northview High's Craig Shirley has committed to sign with Auburn. He made the decision after attending a baseball camp on the plains a couple of weekends ago.
The Tigers are getting a big-time slugger. Shirley batted .477 with 18 homeruns and 72 r.b.i. last season as a junior. He also spent the summer playing on the Wiregrass Cardinals AAU squad.
Shirley still has another year of high school ball to work on his game. Shirley is a first baseman and a pitcher. He's a big guy at 6-4, 220 lbs. Shirley says he's happy about his decision.
“I've had a couple of offers over the summer,” Shirley said. “I just thought it was time for me to make a decision and get it out of the way before the season. I just had my mind made up on that to be able to focus on the year. I've been up there a couple of times.I just like the campus. It's a beautiful place up there. I just loved the coaches and loved the field. I just thought it was a good decision to go up there. Right for me and right for my family.”
