AUBURN, Ala. – Other than telephone conversations still to be had and decisions still to be made, the recruiting process for the Class of 2014 is over. Wednesday morning, football prospects across the country will sign letters-of-intent.

Second-year Auburn Gus Malzahn and his staff are on the verge of another impressive haul. With 20 commitments, they are ranked No. 7 in the 247Sports Composite, No. 9 by Rivals, No. 9 by ESPN and No. 10 by Scout. They got glowing reviews last year for the class they put together in a short time after Malzahn was named head coach on Dec. 4, 2012.

“I think the future is very bright,” Malzahn said. “It’s an exciting time for me to be the head coach.”

Five early enrollees - junior college wide receiver D’haquille Williams, junior college safety Derrick Moncrief, junior college center Xavier Dampeer, athlete Stanton Truitt and tight end Chris Laye - are already in school and attending classes.

Williams is ranked the No. 1 overall junior college prospect nationally. Moncrief and Dampeer are ranked No. 1 at their positions among junior college transfers.

Fifteen players have made verbal commitments and are expected to sign with Auburn on Wednesday. Other significant prospects with Auburn offers have yet to announce their decisions.

Malzahn says recruiting was going well even before Auburn won the Southeastern Conference championship, played in the BCS Championship Game and finished ranked No. 2 nationally. Success, he says, made it even better.

“Recruiting is going great,” Malzahn said. “Any time you have success, obviously, recruiting is easier. It’s been a good year. It’s been a good year. We've just got to finish it."

Prospects can begin signing at 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
