Tre Mason ran a 4.5 in the 40-yard at the NFL Combine on Sunday, a tick slower than his best unofficial 4.44 as the now-former Auburn tailback set out to prove any skeptics wrong.

The SEC's leading rusher with 1,835 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns in 2013 was among the 10 fastest running backs. The running backs showed their pass-catching skills after the sprints.

Some of the NFL TV analysts liked the looks of Mason, whether running or catching.

Mason, an Heisman Trophy finalist, was measured, officially, at 5-foot-8. He was listed at 5-10 at Auburn. Mason shrugged it off, saying he'd prove any doubters wrong. He just pointed to what he accomplished at Auburn.

"I'm not sure what I've got to prove. I believe that numbers don't lie. I put up a lot of numbers this year, and it should be able to speak for itself," he said on Saturday.

"I've been doubted all of my life. I just love proving people wrong."

His other numbers: 38.5 inches in the vertical jump and a 10-6 in the broad jump.

"I prepared for this. I'm just going to continue to be my self and show what I'm like as a person," Mason said.

Mason was the third Auburn player to hit the field, following punter Steven Clark and offensive lineman Greg Robinson, who was the buzz of Saturday's workouts.

Former Auburn defensive end Dee Ford will participate Monday. Defensive back Chris Davis not participate on the field because of a hamstring injury, al.com reported.
