AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Deon Waters rushed for 99 yards while Devann
White and Chris Landrum spearheaded a strong defensive effort to
lead Sweet Water to a 36-0 win over R.A. Hubbard Thursday in the
Class 1A state championship game.
Sweet Water (12-3) won its ninth state championship and fifth in
the last seven years.
Landrum, who was named the Most Valuable Player, had nine
tackles and White had 13. R.A. Hubbard (13-2) did not cross
midfield in the final two quarters.
Sweet Water led 13-0 at halftime and took advantage of three
second-half turnovers to blow the game open. The Bulldogs scored 22
of their 36 points off R.A. Hubbard miscues, including a
Waters had 14 carries for the Bulldogs, who outgained the Chiefs
304-140 in total yards.
