AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Quarterback Ameriol Finley ran 37 times for 174 and scored both touchdowns as Spanish Fort won its first state
football championship with a 14-0 win over Briarwood Christian in
the Class 5A state championship game on Thursday night in
Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Finley scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter and a 3-yard
run on the third play of the fourth quarter to give the Toros a
14-point lead.

Spanish Fort (13-2) became the second-fastest team in AHSAA
history to win a state championship, winning the title in its fifth
year of existence. Northview High School won the 1981 4A state
championship in its fourth year.

Briarwood Christian (13-2) had five turnovers, two unsuccessful
fourth-down conversions and a punt in its eight possessions.

Linebacker Blake Dees led the Toros with seven tackles and
forced two fumbles.
