The Rutherford Football Team has a new head coach. Alvin Dempsey took over during the off-season, and he's preparing to coach his first official game with the Rams on Friday night.

Dempsey took over a team that went 3-7 last season, missing the playoffs in Class 5A. But, the cupboard isn't bare in Rams country.

Rutherford is led by Troy commit Dondrell Harris, a star wide receiver and defensive back. Dempsey says his team has done all of the right things this pre-season, which should allow the Rams to have success once the games begin to count later this week.

"They're responding well," Dempsey said. "They're really accepting all challenges we throw at them. We coach them hard, we work them hard, we love them hard.

"These guys have stepped right in, accepted the challenge, and they want to be the best."

Rutherford won it's pre-season game last Friday night, beating rival Mosley 24-20. The Rams open the regular season on the road, visiting Florida State High on Friday night.
