The Providence Christian Football Team has taken big steps in the past few years. The Eagles earned their first playoff berth in 2007, and won their first post-season game last season.
But, the Eagles have yet to record a win over their biggest rival. Providence Christian will host Houston Academy on Friday night. The Eagles are 0-3 all-time against the rival Raiders.
And, this game has even more on the line than bragging rights in the rivalry. The winner will earn a playoff berth in Class 2A, while the loser will need help to make the post-season.
Providence Christian is enjoying a strong year, bringing a 6-2 record into Friday's game. But getting that all-important seventh victory will be a serious challenge for the Eagles, as HA comes across town with a talented team of it's own.
"I think the fact that they can control the ball and they have a sound defensive attack," Eagles Head Coach Emory Latta said. "Defensively, they're sound too. They're not going to make a whole lot of mistakes, and they're going to force you to drive the ball, and try to force you into making the mistakes and the turnovers. They're real sound in the kicking game, so they've got a good football team."
The Eagles will host the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
