TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Jermarcus Brown rushed for a record 329 yards and three touchdowns as Pickens County High School took down Maplesville High School 38-18 in the AHSAA Class 1A state championship game in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Tornados set 1A championship game records Thursday for yards rushing (441), total offense (471) and individual rushing yards to claim the school's first AHSAA title. The game also set 1A championship records for combined total offense (799) and points (56).
Quarterback Devonte' Simon added 100 yards and a touchdown on the ground and 30 yards and a score through the air. Simon's touchdown pass went to the son of Pickens County coach, Patrick Plott, who shares the same name.
Brown scored on runs of two and 34 yards before taking a fake punt 56 yards to the house in the fourth quarter to close out the game.
