(DOTHAN)-- After a final recruiting visit this past weekend to The Citadel, Northview standout quarterback Jalen Harris made his college decision. Harris will attend Troy University.
Harris becomes the third area football player to commit to Troy. A three-year starter for the Cougars Harris accumulated 2,018 passing yards, 1,032 rushing yards, 29 TD's and six interceptions over his career.
Harris verbally committed to the Trojans on Monday and will play slot receiver in college.
"I'm really excited about going to Troy. It was my number one choice the whole time," said Harris.
"I chose Troy for several reasons: it's close to home so I have support from people around here, I know the coaching staff there really well. I spoke to Clark (Quisenberry) about it during the Super 12 banquet and just felt like it was the best fit for me," he said.
This season Harris threw 17 touchdown passes and ran for nine in helping the Cougars finish 5-5.
Northview head football coach and athletic director, LaBrian Stewart, expressed pride over Harris' decision.
"Troy is getting a great character guy in Jalen. He's a leader in the locker room and a leader off the field. He's as smart as he is athletic. He has a 3.5 GPA which is something I'm most proud of," said Stewart.
Harris says he isn't sure what he wants to study yet at Troy but is leaning towards a degree in law or engineering.
