The Marianna Football Team enters the 2012 season with a new head coach. And, the Bulldogs hired a man who knows a thing or two, or six about winning championships.

Tim Cokely will lead Marianna this season. Cokely led North Florida Christian to six state titles in 12 years, before spending the last two years at Greater Atlanta Christian, where he went 17-5.

Now, Cokely is back in the Sunshine State, leading a Bulldogs team that went 5-5 last season. He believes the Bulldogs can improve on that record this year, if the team will do the work right now it takes to be successful.

"I think all of my teams, I think the one character trait that we've had, for the teams that have been winning teams, is we've taken care of the football," Cokely said. "We play defense first. That's what I believe strongly, but then we take care of the football.

"I think we're starting to get that."

Cokely believes the Bulldogs can make a push at the playoffs if the team will buy into his philosophy.

"Aggressive, tough defense and then taking care of the football will get you a long way in any league, and I don't think our league is any different," Cokely said.

Marianna will play a pre-season game at home on Friday night, hosting West Florida Tech. The Bulldogs open the regular season on the road, visiting Cottondale on August 30th.
