The Chipley Football Team hit the road on Thursday. Destination; Orlando, Florida.
Chipley will play Jefferson County for the 1A Championship, as the Tigers try to bring home the first football championship in school history.
This will be a battle of Tigers, as that's the mascot for both teams. But, that's where the similarities end.
Chipley is going after it's first state title, while Jefferson County tries to build on a rich tradition that already includes five state championships.
Of course, that's history and this is the present. This year's Chipley team has rolled to an 11-2 record, including three straight road playoff wins.
Standing in the Tigers way, is the group of Tigers from Jefferson County, a team with an 8-5 record. Despite those five losses, Jefferson County features two of the best wins in the state in 1A this year, over Trenton and Union County, both top five teams.
So, Chipley knows it will have it's hands full, trying to beat Jefferson County and load the 1A title trophy on the bus Friday night.
"The thing we've got to do is not let them get outside," senior quarterback Josh Myers said. "If we can keep them contained, I think we've got a chance, a very good chance of stopping them on pretty much every possession they've got."
"We take them as any other opponent," senior running back Ryan McIntyre said. "We know they're good."
Chipley will face Jefferson County for the 1A Title at 6:00 p.m. on Friday night at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
