The Geneva County Football Team advanced to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs in 2011. That didn't stop the school from making a coaching change, dismissing Jeff Caldwell at the end of the school year.

Geneva County acted quickly, hiring Carroll offensive coordinator Eric Reynolds, a coach with 11 years of experience and a championship pedigree. Reynolds played on Daleville's 1992 state championship squad.

He takes over a team that returns many of the key components from last year's 6-6 squad, so Reynolds is excited to see what his team can do this season.

"Since we've been there this summer, the kids have a great work ethic," Reynolds said. "It's a really hard working group. They've got a good attitude, so we're very excited about working with this group of kids."

Reynolds was hired during the summer, giving him limited time to put his system and philosophy in place. He says the team will have to adjust on the fly if it hopes to be successful this season.

"Our kids buying into our program," Reynolds said. "Obviously, coming in with a new staff and new terminology in the middle of the summer, it's going to be a little more difficult, but we need our kids to buy in."

Geneva County opens the regular season at home on August 31st, hosting rival Wicksburg.
