After a rough 2011 season...the Enterprise Wildcats were left looking for answers. They finished the season with a three and seven record, prompting the resignation of coach Kevin Collins on October 28. Since then, the school has been searching for the perfect candidate for the position.
Tuesday the school board named a new leader for the Wildcats, current Fairhope head coach, David Faulkner.
"Every person we called, David Faulkner's name came up," Enterprise Principal Matt Rodgers said. "Once we talked to David Faulkner we realized what all the fuss was about."
Faulkner spent three years as head coach at Fairhope, where he finished with a 28 and 9 record, including a 10 and 0 regular season in 2008, and he says the Wildcat tradition brought him to the City of Progress.
"Enterprise has a fabulous tradition," Faulkner said. "You always feel honored to work at schools that have great tradition and take great pride in their teams and their schools and I just thought those were some attributes that I couldn't pass up."
Tradition is important to the new coach, but he also wants the players to make their own mark in Enterprise history.
"We just got to create a sense of urgency and that our time is now," Faulkner said. "We've got to write our chapter in this book of history and they've got their opportunity coming up and we've got to seize that opportunity."
After two rough seasons for the Wildcats, the pressure to win is high, but Faulkner's greatest pressure won't come from the fans or faculty.
"Nobody will put more pressure on me than myself," he said. "I take a lot of pride in what I do and I take a lot of pride in our football team and we'll look to work our way out of this cycle."
FAULKNER IS EXPECTED TO START AT ENTERPRISE JANUARY 2ND.
