Last year a touchdown for Fairhope High School brought a smile to David Faulkner's face. Now he's on the other sideline as his Enterprise Wildcats head to Mobile to battle the coach's former team.
"It's always different or strange to play a school you have some connection to and being the head coach for three years there, I was embedded in the community, knew the coaches and players there," Faulkner said.
He stated it will be nice to see old friends, that is, until it's time for kickoff.
"There will probably be some handshakes and hugs before and after the game, but during the game both sides are going to focus on winning the game," the Wildcats coach said. "The game really has nothing to do with me other than I'm the head coach at Enterprise."
But the players feel differently. They say there's extra motivation for this game.
"I think we're always motivated, but this especially because we want everyone to know that he made the right decision and we're excited to have him," defensive lineman Daniel Butler said.
"We want to win this one for coach because we want to prove that coming down here he made the right decision," quarterback Clark Quisenberry said.
The Wildcats are 1-0 with new QB Quisenberry at the helm, and he has his own message for Faulkner's old team.
"I just want to go out there and make a statement...that Enterprise is coming."
And they're coming with and old friend.
