The Elba Football Team made a pact at the end of last season. The Tigers wanted to practice during Thanksgiving week, which would mean a trip to the Class 2A Semifinals.
Mission accomplished for the Tigers, who will travel to American Christian in the 2A semis on Friday. Elba lost to the Patriots in the third round last season, and immediately began planning for an even deeper run in the playoffs.
Now, the Tigers are getting their wish, practicing during the holiday week in preparation for their biggest game of the year. And, they hit the road to work out on Wednesday, traveling to Veteran's Stadium in Troy.
"We came up here to get a feel for the turf," Head Coach Scott Rials said. "American Christian has similar turf as Troy University, so coach (Larry) Blakeney and his staff and that crew was nice enough to let us come up here and practice, and use the turf.
"We're getting a little feel for that. It's a little big different than grass, but we feel like we're maybe a little bit faster on it, so that could e a good sign for us."
American Christian will host Elba in Tuscaloosa on Friday in the Class 2A Semifinals. The winner will advance to the Class 2A State Championship Game at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Friday, December 2nd.
