When the Dothan High Football Team earned a playoff bid in mid-October, the Tigers believed they would play Daphne on the road in the first round.
Then, McGill-Toolen upset Daphne two weeks ago, winning the Region Two title, and the Tigers had to change their plans. So, Dothan will travel to Mobile to face the Yellow Jackets in the first round of the 6A playoffs on Friday.
McGill-Toolen is 9-1 and state-ranked as the playoffs begin. Dothan travels to Mobile with a 6-4 record, but the Tigers own quality wins over Central-Phenix City and Jeff Davis.
The Tigers believe they can go on the road and win a first round game, something the Tigers haven't done in more than a decade.
"They're well coached," Dothan Head Coach Kelvis White said. "Offensively, they have some key players in their quarterback, running back and a big wide receiver. We've just got to play well and contain those guys.
"Offensively, for us, we've got to make plays. We're going to throw it down the field a little bit this week. Our receivers have to make plays and the offensive linemen need to block. If we do those things, we'll be successful."
Dothan will vist McGill-Toolen on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
