Daphne defeats Hoover 7-6 for 6A title

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - T.J. Yeldon's 1-yard run early in the fourth
quarter lifted Daphne to a 7-6 win over Hoover in the Class 6A
state championship game Friday night in the Super 6 at Jordan-Hare
Stadium.

Daphne picked up its second state championship with the win. The
Trojans also beat the Bucs in 2001.

Daphne (15-0) moved 33 yards in four plays for the winning
score, capped by Yeldon's 1-yard run. Brandon Roberts' extra point
gave the Trojans the all-important one-point lead.

Hoover (14-1) had the ball at the Daphne 1-yard line in the
final minute before a penalty nullified the go-ahead touchdown.
After the penalty, Larsen Real missed a 22-yard field goal that
would have given the Bucs the lead. Real missed two field goals and
an extra point in the loss.

Reginald Johnson hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from Ryan
Carter with 47 seconds left in the first quarter for a 6-0 Bucs
lead.
