AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Sammie Coates accounted for 92 yards and
three touchdowns to lead Leroy to a 34-7 victory over Reeltown in
the Class 2A state football championship game in Auburn.
Coates, who's an Auburn University commitment, caught touchdown
passes for 22 and 12 yards in the second quarter Friday and added a
6-yard scoring run in the third quarter. He was named the game's
Most Valuable Player.
Leroy (14-1) closed the season with a 10-game winning streak and
won its fifth state championship since 2004. The Bears have also
won two of the last three 2A state titles.
William Gartman completed 11-of-15 passes for 143 yards and two
touchdowns in the win. Justin Besteda accounted for 103 yards,
including scoring runs of 1 and 20 yards.
Reeltown (13-2) scored its only touchdown on Milton Chambliss'
36-yard pass to Anthony McKeithen in the third quarter.
