Chipley Players Excited for Title Shot

To play for a state championship, a team must have good players who are well coached. That's a given.

But, a team must also have and "it" factor, something the players can fall back on during tough times. Chipley seems to have that "it" factor this season.

The Tigers are 11-2, including seven wins on the road, with three of those coming in the playoffs. Chipley players believe they've got that little extra quality that can lift them up one more time this Friday in the Class 1A Championship Game.

"We've been putting in the hard work," senior running back Ryan McIntyre said. "Our coaches have been on us, and it's just amazing. We work hard, and we never stop."

The Tigers have thrived in road games this season, including three straight playoff victories outside of Washington County. The players aren't surprised by that success.

"We just go play our game, wherever we are," senior offensive lineman Taylor Smelcer said. "We just try to stay focused, and no matter where it is, we just go play hard.

"We're pretty confident that if we do what we're supposed to do, then we can pull out a win."

Chipley will play Jefferson County for the Class 1A State Championship on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
