The Wicksburg Panthers are trying to rebound from their 4-6 season a year ago. Head Coach Danny Whiddon has 14 returning starters. So, the Panthers have a little experience under their belts now.

Wicksburg worked in a spread offense primarily last year. But, Whiddon says he has some horses in the backfield now. So, he'll keep it on the ground a lot more in 2009.

"Last year we threw the ball a lot because we had to,” Whiddon said. “We didn't have alot of running backs or anybody who could carry the football. This year we should have a little more depth in the running backs. Last year we had to throw the ball every down, just about. It was just scary. The boys liked it, but I didn't."

Wicksburg opens the season Friday, August 28th at home against Geneva County.
