It's here. High school football practices started Monday all across Alabama. The players are knocking the dust off the cleats and returning to fields for the first time since spring practice.
We're just 24 days away from the kickoff to the 2009 season. The Dothan High Tigers practiced twice Monday.
There’s no time like the present to hit the ground running. Head Coach Kelvis White had his guys working on day number one. He's trying to turn the tigers around after a 1-9 performance last season. That including four straight losses to end the season.
But, White according to White, with a new season comes renewed optimism. "We're looking for alot of energy. We teach energy. Come out with some enthusiasm and excitement. I want them happy to be here, not just here to go through the motions. But, we're looking for great technique, great effort, and trying to bond as a team and come together."
Tigers Defensive Back Jeremy Covington added, "People don't think we can do it because we've been losing at the end of the fourth quarter. But, we've got the team that can play all four hard this year."
He’s defensive back partner Brian Huff agreed, "I think that we have more drive and motivation for Dothan High this year. Our attitude is a lot better."
Dothan opens the season at home on Friday, August 28 against Eufaula.
