(Dothan, AL)—For many women like me, football can be confusing and a lot to take in, especially if you’ve never played the sport. That’s why Dothan High School football Coach Kelvis White has the game narrowed down to the basics.
“This happens when the offensive team tries to throw the ball to the open receiver or running back, and the defender tries to intercept the ball away from the offense. When we intercept a ball we coach our team to try and get a touchdown.”
“You have four downs to get a touchdown….On the first ten yards, people typically like to run the ball, a second down can be run on a pass and on a third down, depending on your down and distance.
By the fourth down, if ten yards haven’t been reached, the team can either go for a touchdown and if they don’t make it, it’s the other team’s ball.”
“A touchdown is worth six points and an extra point is worth one. If you feel like you’re close to the goal line but you can’t get a touch-down, the other option is to kick a field goal for 3 points.”
Now that you’ve read some handy football tips, watch me get in the game in the video above.
