The holidays are a good time to give to people in need.
But where do you start?
Two wiregrass organizations say while money is great, your time is also very valuable during the holiday season.
"However you want to be involved, we can set you up with something," SARCOA HR Coordinator Jessica Franklin said.
The wiregrass has a large senior population, SARCOA serves seven counties.
They keep busy during the holidays with their Santa for Seniors program, relying primarily on volunteers.
"Santa for Seniors is a good time for new volunteers to get involved and then if you're interested in volunteering throughout the year, this is a great way to see what we're about," Franklin said.
Some Salvation Army volunteers can tell you from experience.
"It's a very good way to stay busy when you're seniors. We need people to do everything. Just these bags we need 1300 of these bags put together right," Volunteers Jim & Mary-Lou Mooney said.
"You'll be very surprised at how awesome it is to volunteer. It's very easy, you get to meet a lot of people, it's very fun to do," Salvation Army Capt. Thomas Broome said.
Both groups need your help for the holiday season.
SARCOA needs office, collection and delivery volunteers.
"Especially people who have a heart for working with senior citizens," Franklin said.
The Salvation Army needs bell ringers and volunteers for their Angel Tree booth.
"If you don't come and help, then here’s two old people who have to fold 1,300 bags, that’s more than 650 each. It keeps you young to be involved," The Mooney’s said.
The Salvation Army says they've seen a 15% increase in people coming in for help.
If you can't volunteer your time, give the bell ringers some change to help change someone else's life.
