Marianna, FL- 150 ninth and tenth graders from Holmes, Washington, Calhoun, Liberty, and Jackson Counties were at Chipola College in Marianna Friday. The event was a part of the inaugural Florida Learns STEM Scholars Project.

They spent the morning thinking up the most crafty idea for a movable object using cd's, pencils, and other materials. Then the students tested out the devices.

"It's just been really fun to watch them. They've been very resourceful, and they've had to use teamwork to work together on the project," said Chipola College Academic Vice President Dr. Sarah Clemmons

The STEM project is part of a 4.5 million dollar grant awarded to several North Florida education groups. The goal is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
