MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The Alabama
Board of Education has given the state's new school superintendent
a $198,000-a-year contract, good for three years.
The board voted 6-1 Thursday to approve the contract for Tommy
Bice, who has been a deputy superintendent. The contract is worth
$37 more a year than the previous superintendent, Joe Morton, made.
Bice accepted the contract offer and will take over Jan. 1.
Board member Stephanie Bell cast the lone no vote. She said she
favors a two-year deal.
