TROY- Atlanta’s Turner Field became the latest stage for Troy University’s Trumpet Ensemble Sunday.

The group was selected to perform the National Anthem prior to the nationally televised Atlanta Braves’ matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies.

“The students always enjoy these events, and I was excited for them to have the opportunity to experience the scope and spectacle at the major league level,” said Dr. James Zingara, a professor of trumpet in the John M. Long School of Music.

The Ensemble is no stranger to professional baseball, having enjoyed a “great relationship” with the Montgomery Biscuits and performing at Riverwalk Stadium for the past six years, including Opening Day in 2008 and 2009, Dr. Zingara said.

In order to perform, the group had to assemble a demonstration CD, a public relations package and compete against others for the chance to play before the crowd.
