ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia officials are investigating four schools for possible widespread cheating on standardized tests.
Kathleen Mathers of the Governor's Office for Student Achievement told state school board members Wednesday that the schools had high numbers of erasures on the fifth-grade math Criterion-Referenced Competency Test. She says the scores were improved significantly by the changes.
Mathers says her office believes the answers were altered, though she doesn't know by whom. The scores were used to help the four schools to meet federal No Child Left Behind standards.
The schools are in the Atlanta, Fulton County, DeKalb County and Glynn County systems.
