A black iron skillet is a must
3 cups sugar
2/3 cups cocoa
1 1/4 cups evaporated milk
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. black walnut flavoring
1 1/4 tbsp. Butter
1. Put into skillet sugar, cocoa, evaporated milk, and milk. Bring to bubbling boil over medium heat. Cook until temperature reaches soft ball stage. (approximately 20 minutes) Stir often.
2. Remove from heat and add vanilla, black walnut flavoriing and butter.
3. Stir in chocolate mixture and let stand until glaze forms. BEAT until it forms another glaze.. Add black walnuts
Peach (Wayne Mefferd) is my brother in law who lives in Missouri Valley, Iowa and own and operates Peachy’s Barber Shop in Woodbine, Iowa where is now cutting third generations of hair. He is married to my sister Peggy. They manage to find me fresh black walnuts most every year and sends them for the holidays. When I visit he always this fudge and pops popcorn the old fashioned way.
