David Sommers' Red Beans and Rice


1 package of sausage
1 cup rice
2 cans of New Orleans Style Red Kidney Beans
1/5 cup brown sugar, maybe more
other stuff if you like it.


Use an electric fry pan with lid set at 325 degrees.
Brown one package of Conecuh sausage (or a brand that you prefer). Some may even like the extra spicy version of the sausage. My favorite version of this meal is simple and leans a little to the sweet side. Either before or after the browning, cut the sausage into small bite sized pieces so there's a little bit in every bite. Of course, drain
the sausage when done.
To keep from having to wait too long to eat, get your favorite pot of rice going.
Open two cans of Red Kidney Beans and our into fry pan. Rinse out the can while dding about one cup of water. No all night soaking for these babies! Add browned sausage back into he beans, bring to a boil to cook the beans. Add brown sugar to taste. Stir occasionally. The aroma in the house will remind you.
After the rice is done and drained. Serve on a plate or in a bowl with a layer of rice on the bottom and top of the sausage and beans. Now sit down to eat. It can be that simple or you can spice it up like you like it.
