ATLANTA (AP) -- A bill that would funnel more state money into poor school districts has passed the House.
House Bill 824 changes how the state calculates funding for schools so that the district's wealth per student is taken into account. It will mean some of the state's poorer school districts will get more money, while wealthier ones could lose some state funding.
The bill is part of an effort by Gov. Nathan Deal and lawmakers to overhaul the Quality Basic Education funding formula. Other changes are expected.
The legislation passed on a vote of 143-23. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
