Slow Economic Recovery Could Be Good for Republicans

The latest unemployment report shows that economic recovery is moving at a slow crawl. In fact, last month thousands of jobs disappeared.

95,000 jobs were lost in September, and a small increase in the private sector didn't offset the drop.

Many unemployed have taken part-time work to get by, while others have simply stopped looking causing the underemployment rate to increase to more than 17 percent. The overall jobless rate is holding steady at 9.6 percent.

The latest unemployment report is bad news for President Obama. He says he's working hard to fix the economy, but time is running out.

The economy is the number one issue for candidates running for election across the country.

According to the latest CBS poll, just 38 percent approve of how the president is handling the economy. Republicans say they can do better and have a shot at taking control of Congress next month in the midterm elections.

They have a strong lead in the polls, but there are a number of undecided voters up for grabs.
