Chief Justice Roy Moore 200x120
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Former Alabama Chief Justice Perry Hooper Sr. has endorsed fellow Republican Roy Moore for chief justice.
Hooper cited Moore's service in Vietnam, his leadership experience and legal knowledge when making the endorsement Thursday. Hooper was Alabama's first Republican chief justice since Reconstruction. He retired as chief justice in 2001 and was succeeded by Moore. Moore was removed from office in 2003 for refusing to abide by a federal court order to remove his Ten Commandments monument from the lobby of the state judicial building.
Moore faces Democratic Circuit Judge Bob Vance in Tuesday's election. Vance picked up an endorsement earlier this week from former Alabama Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb and nine other present and former members of the state Supreme Court.
