Marianna, FL - Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink and Lieutenant Governor candidate Rod Smith are campaigning across the Panhandle this week, making a final push before Election Day.

The running mates held a large rally in Marianna Monday at Chipola College.

They received quite a welcome from supporters who praised their character and integrity.

Applause rang high throughout the building Monday night as Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink met with supporters in Marianna.

"For the first time in my life, I'll be voting for a Democrat for Governor," says James Baiardi, Police Benevolent Association.

Standing in front of five local Sheriffs, Sink and running mate Rod Smith were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of supporters that were a cross-section of the community.

"This is an easy choice, it's about the character, you know, when I think about it, it's an easy choice because we have such an outstanding candidate," says Smith.

Many speakers highlighted Sink's track record of 26 years in banking and as Florida's Chief Financial Officer.

"Alex Sink is prepared, folks, we don't have time for on-the-job training, there's no tutorial on how to be Governor, we need somebody who can hit the ground running."

They say that's a major difference between Sink and her Republican opponent, Rick Scott.

Smith and other speakers criticized Scott's plan to cut the Corrections budget by one billion dollars.

"Usually when a candidate runs, we hear the best during the election and the worst later on, in this case, he's coming out with some bad news really early on," adds Baiardi.

Sink says, "what I am committing to is that we do need to further diversify our economy in north Florida."

She assured everyone she would maintain her character and integrity, and keep her promises.

"On January 4th, on Inauguration Day, I want you all to be there!"

Sink is the first Democratic candidate to be endorsed by the Police Benevolent Association in 20 years.
