Tea Party Activists Fan Out for Rallies

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A push to rein in big government has been the central theme today as tea party members and supporters fanned out from coast to coast for rallies.

In the nation's capital, several thousand people marched along Pennsylvania Avenue from the Washington Monument to the Capitol.

Many carried signs reading "Congress You're Fired" and "Let Failures Fail and "Impeach Obama."

One participant, Michael Power of Decatur, Ala., said he wouldn't mind if there were "a clean sweep" of elected officials.

In Sacramento, an estimated 4,000 people poured onto a former Air Force Base site for a "United to the Finish" rally.

But that was far fewer than the 25,000 to 50,000 crowd that organizers had

And in St. Louis, marchers packed the area between the Gateway Arch and the Mississippi River.
