BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) -- The Brunswick News reports that two
departing city officials are receiving severance pay that's
supposed to be available to them only if they're fired or asked to
resign.

The News reports an examination of city records shows former
City Manager Roosevelt Harris received $54,300 in severance after
commissioners met in a closed session Sept. 7 to discuss paying him
six months' salary and a car allowance. Harris said he was retiring
voluntarily.

City Attorney Lynn Frey III, who says he's leaving Nov. 1 to
pursue other interests, said Friday he will receive a severance
package.

The severance packages are in contracts that renewed
automatically for both Harris and Frey in 2010 for
two-year-periods. City commissioners voted in June to end the
automatic renewals.
