LAS VEGAS (AP) - After three terms, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is preparing to leave office and 18 hopefuls are vying to succeed him.
The front-runner in Tuesday's primary election is Goodman's wife, Carolyn.
Among the crowded crew of candidates trying to best her is an affluent Frenchman who kisses female voters on the hand, a tequila maker and a handful of elected officials with strong policy pedigrees but none of Goodman's showmanship.
Nearly 20,000 voters, or 9 percent of the electorate, showed up for early voting.
Goodman can win outright with more than 50 percent of the vote.
Otherwise, the top two candidates will face off in June.
Oscar Goodman says he would be mayor for life if the law allowed it.
Instead, he is cheering for his wife.
