WASHINGTON, D.C. – Seeking answers on the complications of ObamaCare, U.S. Representative Martha Roby (R-AL) today relayed a question directly from a constituent to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius during a hearing of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.

Over the past week, Rep. Roby has used Facebook and Twitter to ask constituents what questions they would have for Secretary Sebelius regarding the implementation of President Obama’s healthcare law if given the opportunity to ask. Among the first questions submitted was from Jason Missildine, of Prattville., Ala, who asked how increased taxes and fees are supposed to lower healthcare costs for Americans.

Rep. Roby thanked all of the constituents who submitted questions, and said she wished time would have allowed for more.

“I was pleased to bring the concerns of hardworking Alabamians directly to the person responsible for implementing ObamaCare,” Rep. Roby said. “Unfortunately, Secretary Sebelius didn’t answer Mr. Missildine’s question. Her response just further illustrates that this Administration is more interested in redistribution of wealth than they are in actually lowering health care costs for all Americans.”

Though many constituents did share their questions on social media, many communicated privately to Rep. Roby that they felt uncomfortable criticizing the healthcare law publicly because of how the government might retaliate against them or their business. These concerns come in the wake of the ongoing investigation into IRS officials targeting conservative groups for special scrutiny from 2010-2012.

Rep. Roby used her time to make the Secretary and the Committee aware of this disturbing concern.

“For my constituents – many who are small business owners – to tell me they are afraid to publicly address grievances with their government for fear of reprisal or selective targeting by the IRS is chilling. It’s just another reminder of the consequences that can come from the government abusing its power.”
