The following statement was sent from Dr. Lamesa Danzy at 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15:
Since the August 6 Election, supporters of the Danzey for Commission District 2 Campaign have heard from voters in the Commission District 2 who have raised seriously questions regarding the validity of absentee ballots cast in the election for Commissioner of District 2.
These allegations were turned over to the District Attorney who requested Sherriff Andy Hughes conduct a full investigation into allegations of voter fraud with absentee ballots.
Voters who went to the polls voted overwhelmingly for Dr. Lamesa Danzey as Commissioner for District 2; but 96% of the absentee ballots went to her opponent. However, based on the information that voters themselves have brought forward the information that has been uncovered in the investigative reporting conducted by the news media, the validity of the absentee votes are questionable. We believe enough illegal absentee votes exist to change the outcome of the election as certified Tuesday, Aug. 13 by the City Commission.
Dr. Lamesa Danzey will formally contest the certified election based on absentee ballot voter fraud; specifically that illegal votes were cast via absentee ballots and if those illegal votes are discarded, the outcome of the certified election would be reversed and Dr. Danzey would be declared the winner. A formal contest will be filed in the Houston County Circuit Court within the 5 prescribed by law; asking the court to “throw out” the illegal absentee ballots cast and certified by the City Commission.
This fight will be fought on two tracks. The Sheriff’s office will continue to conduct its criminal investigation. However, Dr. Danzey will fight to ensure the voter’s choice will represent them as their City Commissioner in the new term that begins October 1, 2013. This must be done through the Houston County Circuit Court according to state law.
Many voters, friends and constituents have reached out and encouraged Dr. Danzey to fight to uncover the alleged fraud and change the “Business as Usual” attitude that has been so pervasive in District 2. Many have asked how they can help. Thank you for your encouragement and support. Together we can ensure “No Business As Usual” in Commission District 2 Elections and future elections in our city.
