Alabama’s newly appointed Secretary of State is no stranger to the office.
Jim Bennett will serve out the remainder of Beth Chapman’s term once she steps down on July 31.
Bennett will not be a candidate in the 2014 election.
"I think the governor -- and I do appreciate the confidence that he expressed in me, he's a good friend -- wanted someone who wouldn't be a candidate for the full term that will be subject to the 2014 elections. That was fine with me. I just like to get back in the saddle,” said Bennett.
Bennett served as Secretary of State from 1993 to 2003.
