The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations of voter fraud.
Sheriff’s Andy Hughes confirms that they are launching an investigation at the request of District Attorney Dough Valeska involving absentee ballots in the District Two race.
At question are 124 absentee ballots. Incumbent Amos Newsom received 119 of those ballots. Challenger Lamesa Danzey won 5. All absentee votes will be turned over to the sheriff's office for this investigation.
Sheriff Hughes says they will be questioning voters who cast absentee ballots. He encourages people to come forward if they feel they were forced to sign an absentee ballot or if they believe someone signed for them.
Sheriff Hughes says the investigation could last two weeks to a month.
