MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Outgoing Alabama House Speaker Seth Hammett says he does not regret his decision to step-down after 12 years as speaker and more than 30 years as a state representative.
Hammett, a Democrat, hands over the gavel to Republican Mike Hubbard after Democrats lost control of the Legislature for the first time since the 1870s.
Hammett told the Montgomery Advertiser that Democrats need to show patience and wait for voters to again change their minds.
The outgoing speaker pointed out that two years ago voters mostly chose Democrats in elections across the country.
