MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA - - David Adams Perry, an attorney with the Birmingham-based law firm Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. has been named State Finance Director, a key position in Governor-elect Robert J. Bentley’s new cabinet.
The Department of Finance is responsible for the management of financial matters of the state, advises the Governor and Legislature on financial matters, and protects the financial interests of the state.
Perry worked in the Finance Department in Governor Bob Riley’s administration, serving as Assistant Finance Director, working with then Finance Director Drayton Nabers, Jr. Subsequently, he also served as outside counsel to the Finance Department on other state finance matters.
Perry graduated with honors from Duke University, having received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Policy Studies, and is also an honors graduate of Northwestern University School of Law.
“The Finance Director is the Chief Financial Officer of the State of Alabama and will play a very important role in my administration. David has worked in the Finance Department and has also worked on special assignment to ensure the proper handling and expenditure of federal funds. David has the academic background and professional experience we need in the Finance Office. We are indeed fortunate that someone of David Perry’s background and knowledge about state finances has agreed to serve in this key capacity in my cabinet,” said Governor-elect Robert Bentley.
Perry is a founding board member of the Birmingham Education Foundation. He is also a member of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama Roundtable.
Perry and his wife have one child and live in Birmingham.
