ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- With less than a year and a half before the 2012 election, four Republican candidates for U.S. Senate are firing up their campaigns.
Mike Haridopolos, Adam Hasner, George Lemieux and Mike McCalister spoke Thursday during the annual meeting of the Florida
Press Association and the Florida Society of News Editors.
Haridopolos is the president of the Florida Senate and from Brevard County. Hasner is a state representative from Broward County. Lemieux, who served as chief of staff for former Gov. Charlie Crist, served in the U.S. Senate after Crist appointed him to fill a vacancy. McCalister is a businessman and retired Army Colonel from Hillsborough County.
Views from the candidates didn't widely differ; all pledge to cut federal spending, lower taxes and shrink government. They also criticized the Obama administration.
